Clicking on menu hexes in the Navigation menu (Box 2, top center) will allow you to access in-game mail, see your inventory, open your friends list, as well as reveal any available MODS or customization for your units. We slap some bacon on a tank and go online with the free to play RTS End of Nations!

Today we get a new video from Trion to let us know EON’s Plan of Attack. We find out that Alpha is ongoing, Closed Beta to start this spring and Open Beta to begin this Summer. Stay tuned for more information as it develops!

After viewing the future of RIFT at GDC, I sat down with Trion Worlds VP of Third Party Development Dave Luehmann to get my first real look at Trion’s MMORTS End of Nations.

New screenshots from the 1 versus 1 PVP Map called Last Stand.

New screenshots from Resource Hog, an 8v8 PVP Map.

Newly released screenshots from Deep Hammer, a 12 vs 12 PVP Map.

There have been a few media review surface today about End of Nations. Trion had a few folks into their studios last week. This is the first media look at the game since last year’s Pax Prime.

Resource Hog, a four-versus-four map, was much clearer, and surprisingly enjoyable. A capture-and-hold map, Resource Hog put players on a large area of open terrain, with certain locations near the edges giving players the resources needed for victory, and others closer to the center giving cash needed to resupply units. Teams have to strike a balance between shifting their objective points higher and being able to recover from enemy attacks. Resource Hog is also fascinating because there are key portions of the map that are completely inaccessible by certain unit types. One of the cash capture-points could only be captured by infantry, with metallic structures blocking entrance by tanks and larger units.

The first map we played was called Operation Last Stand. In this map we were pitted against a single other player for a 1v1 game. However the rules were not what one would necessarily expect. Instead of fighting each other the goal was instead to survive the longest against the computer AI as wave after wave of enemies were sent to infiltrate each base. The player who survived the most waves won.

The flavor to the map came from control points which were able to be commandeered by the players themselves. And, should they desire, they could opt to spend their time and resources trying to sabotage the other player’s chances at survival. Alternatively one could choose just to hold their ground and see who was the most resilient. These kinds of options are important to a Strategy Game as it allows the player to develop their own methods and play styles.

That’s where Trion’s MMO experience comes in. “We find that what’s really worked is a lot of the social features,” Lena says. “like clan mechanics, chat, friends lists, being able to find groups together. We want as manypeople as possible in the game because it makes it more fun for everyone else.” As we talk, we end up using MMO phrases like PvP and PvE time and time again, partly because of Trion’s MMO background, but also because End of Nations is making a determined attempt to bring the scale of a free-to-play MMO to the RTS.

Well folks I had the pleasure of sitting down with our new Senior Producer Bryce Jones. He was eagerly awaiting this interview as he is extremely excited about working on End of Nations as well as getting to know some of you folks. I think I speak for the entire team when I say we are happy to have him here!

Howdy Folks!

Below is some very important information regarding alpha and beta for End of Nations!

Closed Alpha – We have a closed alpha running 24×7 right now. The best way be selected early for the closed alpha is to be hand picked and the best way for that to happen is to be an active member within our forums! The closed alpha will continue to run and we will continue to add members to this select group as time goes on. Once again, the best way to get selected is to be active within our forums!

Beta Events – During the up coming months there will be several beta events in which the majority of people will be able to get hands on with End of Nations. This is separate from our 24×7 closed alpha and each event will only be open for a limited amount of time. You will start to see beta codes flying around, so if you want to play End of Nations in these events – getting your hands on one of these beta codes will be the easiest way for you to do so.

I’m sure you have seen us starting a few contests lately, and part of that revolves around us getting ready for those beta events as well as getting the community at large prepared for End of Nations!
